Is Genetic Testing for You?

Many cancers are hereditary. With a simple blood test, PrecisionGU genetic testing can provide answers for you and your family regarding prostate cancer. Available at MidLantic Urology, PrecisionGU can be beneficial regardless of the results.

  • If you test positive for a gene mutation for prostate cancer: You can get more closely monitored and take steps towards prevention to catch the cancer early when it is more easily treated.
  • If you test negative for a gene mutation for prostate cancer: You can eliminate unnecessary checkups and gain peace of mind.

Results also may indicate if your children may inherit your cancer risk. PrecisionGU involves a simple blood test, drawn at any of our offices. Results are processed in our own lab. Ask your MidLantic Urology physician if PrecisionGU testing is right for you. Learn more.

Breakthrough PSMA PET Scan Coming in July

A new, more precise scan to detect prostate cancer will soon be available at MidLantic Urology. The PSMA PET scan can detect cancer that is often missed by other scanning techniques. Recently approved by the FDA, the PSMA PET scan works like this:

  • The patient is injected with a radioactive imaging agent that finds and attaches itself to prostate cancer cells.
  • The imaging agent is detected during the PSMA PET scan, indicating exactly where the cancer cells exist in the prostate and in other areas of the pelvis.
  • Knowing the exact location of the cancer cells allows for precisely targeted treatment.

If you or someone you care about may have prostate cancer, contact the MidLantic Urology location nearest to you and ask if a PSMA PET scan is right for you. We are excited to begin offering this scan in July.

New Interventional Radiology Center Coming June 2025

IR Center | Opening in June!

945 Chesterbrook Blvd. | Suite 101 | Chesterbrook, PA 19087

You want the least invasive technique possible to diagnose and treat your condition. That’s why we are opening a new, state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology Center (IR Center) in June.

Interventional radiology offers minimally invasive treatment options because it uses x-ray or other imaging techniques to guide instruments. Benefits include:

  • Risk of complications is minimal
  • Less pain than open surgery
  • General anesthesia (deep sleep) is not needed for many procedures
  • Fast recovery, home the same day
  • Convenient, easy in-and-out facility
  • Specially trained physicians. Interventional radiologists are medical doctors with six or more years of additional training.

Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, will be the first to be treated at the IR Center. Treatment for other conditions are in the plans for the near future. If you have BPH, ask your MidLantic Urology provider if interventional radiology is right for you.
