Dr. David McGinnis received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. He served both his general surgery and urology residencies at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He did a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Urologic Oncology from 1999 to 2000 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr. McGinnis has published multiple papers on laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and was on the full-time faculty at Jefferson before moving his practice to Bryn Mawr. He has served as Secretary and then President of the Philadelphia Urologic Society. He has extensive experience with laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He was the first surgeon in Philadelphia to perform many laparoscopic procedures, including laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and laparoscopic pyeloplasty. He also was the first Philadelphia surgeon to perform more than 20 robotic prostatectomies. For the last 12 years, he has been among the two or three busiest robotic surgeons in the region. He has been named a “Top Doc” by Philadelphia Magazine in 2003, 2011 -2018, and been named a “Top Doc” by Main Line Today for several years. He currently serves as Chief of Urology at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
