Dr. Guy Bernstein Named MidLantic Urology’s First Chief Medical Officer

Earlier this year, MLU created the Clinical Advisory Committee (CAC) with the purpose to advise on clinical issues with a focus on integrating into “One MLU,” practicing evidence-based medicine, and standardizing and instituting best practices. Under the leadership of Dr. Belkoff, the 

CAC recognized the need for MLU’s inaugural Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Chief Operating Officer Jon Mackler was in support of the CAC’s decision to appoint a CMO.

“I am proud of the progress that we have made over the past two years. The leadership team and the Board continue to focus on making MLU a best-in-class organization. Even though this doesn’t occur overnight, every day we continue to make progress. This role is another step in the right direction,” says Mackler.

With the support of the administration, the position description was developed and the process to name our new CMO began. The Board voted to endorse Dr. Guy Bernstein, and his appointment was announced at the All-Urologist Meeting on October 18, 2022.

Dr. Bernstein is currently practicing at the Bryn Mawr and Paoli offices and serves as Chair of the Compliance Committee and member of the Board.

In his new role, Dr. Bernstein will lead the overall clinical vision and direction of the organization. He will provide medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality health care services. Dr. Bernstein will strategize, develop and implement innovative clinical technologies in collaboration with both internal and external parties.

“As the first Chief Medical Officer for MidLantic Urology, I am excited to help guide the practice of urology with disease-specific clinical pathways and the introduction of new diagnostic tests and therapies. I look forward to working with the other CMOs throughout Solaris to be the very best large urology group,” says Dr. Bernstein.

Dr. Michael Hagg, chairman of the Board, was pleased with the Board’s decision to name Dr. Bernstein.

“This is a very exciting time for MLU, as we name Dr. Bernstein our first CMO. I know he will help to advance us further clinically and promote collaboration amongst our legacies and Solaris affiliates. Additionally, I am proud of the Recruitment Committee’s efforts during the process, as well as all of the physicians who applied for the position. The candidates were focused on breaking down the old walls to create ‘one MLU.'”
