Harry’s Prostate Cancer Story

“I was immediately confident he knew precisely what he was doing.”

When his routine PSA test jumped more than two points, Harry learned he had prostate cancer. Fortunately, it had not metastasized. After an MRI, biopsy, and PET scan, his provider at a local hospital recommended radiation oncology.

Next step, fiducial markers. These tiny metal objects, about the size of a grain of rice, are placed in the prostate prior to radiation. Once in place, they help your healthcare provider line up the beams of radiation so they land precisely where they are needed to destroy cancer cells.

Because Harry’s cancer journey had begun six months prior, he was eager to get the markers in place and radiation underway. “I was done fooling around with this,” he says. “When my radiation oncologist at the hospital told me it would be several weeks before an appointment was available, I told her that wasn’t acceptable. I asked her how I could get the process underway sooner. She suggested I call Dr. Dean Laganosky at MidLantic Urology.”

“Although Dr. Laganosky’s scheduler, Becky, said the soonest opening was four weeks away, she promised she’d contact me if a cancellation opened an earlier time slot. And that’s exactly what happened. I was so happy to know things would be underway almost six weeks sooner at MidLantic Urology,” says Harry.

At this point, Harry had seen many doctors throughout his years, but noticed something different about Dr. Laganosky and MidLantic Urology.

“When I met Dr. Laganosky, I was immediately confident that he knew precisely what he was doing,” Harry explains. “In my 86 years there were only two other instances where I felt an immediate trust that this doctor was the right one for me.”

Forty-five minutes later, Harry was driving home. Thanks to a local anesthetic, he felt no pain and was completely capable of driving himself back home.

Harry is grateful that radiation will get underway three weeks sooner thanks to MidLantic Urology. He is ready to get the entire process behind him and return to his very active lifestyle which includes yoga, tai chi, the exercycle at the gym, and playing bridge.
