Men: Your Health Matters
For many men, serious health concerns seem like something that happens to someone else—until they don’t. Delaying routine screenings or ignoring symptoms can allow manageable conditions to progress into more complex health issues.
June is Men’s Health Month, making it the perfect time to take charge of your well-being. When it comes to urologic health, early action often leads to better outcomes and more treatment options.
Prostate Cancer: Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer never expected it. A simple PSA blood test can help detect prostate cancer early, when treatment is often most effective. If it’s been more than a year, or you’ve never had a PSA test, learn why a PSA test is so important and if you should schedule one.
Enlarged Prostate: Frequent trips to the bathroom, a weak urinary stream, or difficulty emptying your bladder aren’t just part of getting older. If left untreated, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, can lead to bladder complications. Fortunately, multiple treatment options are available for BPH, including many that are non-invasive and get you home the same day. Evaluate your symptoms with this simple quiz.
Sexual Health: Changes in sexual health can happen at any age, but they don’t have to define your quality of life. Whether you’re experiencing erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, low testosterone, or something else, you should know that treatment options are available. Our team helps men address these issues with compassion and expertise every day.
The bottom line? Don’t ignore changes in your health. Seeking care early may help prevent more serious problems down the road.
On The Road with OAB
Planning a trip should be exciting, not stressful. But for people living with overactive bladder (OAB), concerns about finding a restroom in time can add anxiety to vacations, road trips, and even short outings. The good news? OAB is common, and effective treatments are available.
If you’re traveling with OAB, a little planning can go a long way:
- Research restroom locations before you head out.
- Avoid bladder irritants like caffeine and alcohol before long stretches of travel.
- Pack extra supplies, such as absorbent products or a change of clothes.
- Be sure to bring any medications you use to manage symptoms.
Most importantly, don’t assume bladder symptoms are something you simply have to accept. Help is available. From behavioral strategies and pelvic floor therapy to medications and advanced treatment options, there are many ways to manage OAB effectively.
If bladder symptoms are interfering with your daily life—or your travel plans—talk with a urology provider. With the right treatment plan, you can focus less on the nearest restroom and more on enjoying the journey.
Understanding BPH: Treatment Options for an Enlarged Prostate

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, is a common condition affecting many men as they age. BPH can cause bothersome urinary symptoms such as a weak stream, frequent urination, urgency, difficulty starting urination, or waking multiple times at night to use the bathroom.
The good news is that effective treatments are available. For mild symptoms, lifestyle changes and medications may provide relief. When symptoms become more disruptive, minimally invasive procedures can offer lasting improvement.
One option available at MidLantic Urology is prostate artery embolization (PAE). This minimally invasive procedure works by reducing blood flow to the enlarged prostate, causing it to shrink over time. PAE is performed through a tiny catheter, requires no major incisions, and offers a shorter recovery period than traditional surgery. At this time, PAE is only covered by Medicare but we are actively seeking its coverage by major insurance carriers.
If BPH symptoms are affecting your quality of life, talk with your urologist about the treatment options that may be right for you.

Why Water Matters
Did you know that something as simple as staying hydrated may help protect your urinary health?
Chronic dehydration can increase your risk of kidney stones, urinary tract infections, bladder irritation, and even kidney disease.
Your urinary system depends on water to flush out waste and function properly—and a few small changes can make a big difference. Read our blog to find out how simple hydration habits can support lifelong urologic health.
