ZEROing Out Prostate Cancer

July 27, 2022

MidLantic Urology’s dedicated providers spend each day working with patients to provide personalized care for an array of urologic conditions, including prostate cancer. In addition to medically supporting patients battling prostate cancer, our support extends outside our offices and into the community.

In 2019, MidLantic Urology helped ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer establish a presence in the Greater Philadelphia region, creating the Philadelphia ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk, which MidLantic Urology is proud to host.

Each year since 2019, we’ve gathered patients, caregivers, family and friends both in-person and virtually to bring the community together to raise money for prostate cancer funding, research, local grants, rides  to treatments and appointments, and debt relief for patients. With the support of countless sponsors and community members, we’ve raised more than $167,000.

This year will be the first year that the Philadelphia ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is back in-person since the very first race in 2019. Race Director and Regulatory Coordinator for MidLantic Urology’s Clinical Research Division, Kelly Liberatore is excited to bring the community back together this September.

“Working within MidLantic Urology’s Clinical Research Division, I get to see first-hand how funding for prostate cancer research can turn into new life-saving treatment options that impact our patients,” said Liberatore. “I’m proud to lead the Greater Philadelphia region’s efforts to support those battling prostate cancer, survivors and caregivers through ZERO.”

According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.

Jessica Kartalija, co-anchor of CBS 3’s Eyewitness News at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. and Eyewitness News at 10 p.m. on The CW Philly 57, has a personal connection to the cause, which has led her to become this year’s emcee for the Philadelphia Run/Walk.

“I am really looking forward to being part of such a special and powerful event. Having close friends and family members impacted by prostate cancer, raising awareness is extremely important to me,” said Kartalija. “I’m looking forward to the day when we can zero out prostate cancer.”

You can join us in the fight to end prostate cancer by registering for the Philadelphia ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk on Sunday, September 25th, 2022.

Held at Wilson Farm Park in Wayne, the event includes a 5k Run/Walk, a one mile walk, Kids Superhero Dash for Dad, and a Survivor and Caregiver recognition ceremony. Registration is free, but all those participating are encouraged to fundraise individually or in a team for the cause.

Those who can’t make the race can still donate by clicking here, or by participating in MidLantic Urology’s upcoming fundraiser at honeygrow in Bala Cynwyd on Monday, August 15th.
